*A hub refers to any type of 100Mbps hub, including regular hubs and stackable hubs. A 10Mbps hub connected to another 10Mbps hub can span up to 100 meters (328 feet).

Connecting Network Devices

To connect network devices to the Switch, follow these instructions:

1.Make sure all the devices you will connect to the Switch are powered off.

2.Connect a Category 5 Ethernet network cable to one of the numbered ports on the Switch.

3.Connect the other end to a PC or other network device.

4.Repeat steps 2 and 3 to connect additional devices.

5.If you are using the Gigabit port, connect a Category 5e Ethernet network cable to the Gigabit port on the Switch, and connect the other end to a Gigabit server or other network device.

6.If you are using the mini-GBIC port, then connect the mini-GBIC module to the mini-GBIC port. For detailed instructions, refer to the module’s doc- umentation.

Note: The mini-GBIC port is compatible with two types of mini- GBIC modules, 850 nm and 1310 nm.

7.Connect the supplied power cord to the Switch’s power port, and plug the other end into an electrical outlet.

8.Power on the devices connected to the Switch. Each active port’s corre- sponding LED will light up on the Switch.

Proceed to the following section, “Placement Options.”

SR224G specifications

The Linksys SR224G is a robust and efficient Ethernet switch designed to meet the networking demands of small to medium-sized businesses and home office environments. This 24-port Gigabit switch provides a seamless and reliable connectivity solution, enabling multiple devices within a network to communicate effortlessly.

One of the main features of the Linksys SR224G is its 24 Gigabit Ethernet ports, which allow for high-speed data transfers of up to 1000 Mbps. This speed is essential for environments that require fast and reliable access to shared resources such as files, printers, and internet services. By utilizing Gigabit technology, organizations can ensure that their bandwidth demands are met, especially in data-heavy applications.

The SR224G supports advanced features such as auto-MDI/MDI-X, which automatically detects and adjusts the cable type used for connections, eliminating the need for crossover cables. This functionality simplifies network setup and reduces potential connection issues, making it ideal for both beginners and IT professionals.

Another key characteristic of the Linksys SR224G is its Layer 2 switching capability. This means that it operates at the data link layer, efficiently directing data traffic based on MAC address information. This helps enhance network performance by reducing contention and improving overall data transmission efficiency.

The switch is designed with a fanless architecture, which contributes to its quiet operation. This makes the SR224G an excellent choice for environments where noise is a concern, such as offices or home workspaces. The compact, rack-mountable design also allows for flexible installation options, catering to different user needs and scenarios.

In terms of security, the SR224G provides features that help protect the network, including support for IEEE 802.1p traffic prioritization, which allows for enhanced Quality of Service (QoS). This feature is crucial for applications that require consistent performance, such as voice over IP or video conferencing.

Overall, the Linksys SR224G is a feature-rich and reliable Ethernet switch that excels in providing high-speed connectivity, ease of use, and a quiet operation. Its advanced networking capabilities make it a valuable addition for any organization looking to enhance their network infrastructure. With its combination of performance, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness, the SR224G stands out as a compelling choice for users seeking a dependable networking solution.
