Setup Instructions

Monitoring Distance = 1 to 2 meters

After carefully unpacking the PM-1 MKProfessional Studio Monitor, it is now time to setup the monitors for the best acoustic performance in your studio. The PM-1 MKwas designed to be used at a monitoring distance of 1 to 2 meters, typically referred to as the near-field.

Monitoring Height = the acoustic center aimed at seated ear height

It is recommended that the PM-1 MKbe located in such a way that the acoustic center is located at, or about, seated ear height (see Figure 1). If this is not possible, it may be necessary to tilt/aim the monitor at the listeners ears.

Monitoring Angle = 60 Degrees

The monitoring angle between the left and right monitors and the listening position should equal 60 degrees. The easiest way to determine this is to place the speakers in such a way that the distance between the left and right monitor is equal to the monitoring distance / listening position (see Figure 2). It is also recommended that both speakers be "toed-in" towards the listening position.

Additional Information

The PM-1 MKwas designed to be mounted vertically. This provides for the most accurate frequency response, reduces acoustic boundary interference and provides optimum cooling performance

for the heat sink that is located on the back of the studio monitor. If it is not possible to mount the monitors vertically, then the monitors should be placed with the woofers inside and the monitors "toed-in" towards the listening area.

The Fostex PM-1MKII is a notable addition to the realm of studio monitors, recognized for its exceptional sound quality and accuracy. This model is a part of Fostex's line of professional monitors designed for both studio and home use, catering to musicians, producers, and audio engineers alike.

One of the primary features of the PM-1MKII is its compact yet powerful design. It houses a 4-inch polypropylene woofer and a 1-inch silk dome tweeter, which work together to deliver a wide frequency response. This combination ensures clear mids and highs while maintaining depth in the low-end frequencies. The monitor is capable of spanning a frequency range from 55Hz to 45kHz, providing users with a full spectrum of sound that captures the nuances in any audio mix.

The PM-1MKII's acoustic design is another standout characteristic. It employs a bass reflex system, which enhances low-frequency performance, making it ideal for genres that require robust bass response. The rear-firing bass port allows for efficient airflow, minimizing distortion and enhancing overall clarity. This design ensures that users can hear their mixes accurately, allowing for informed decisions during the mixing and mastering process.

Another notable technology integrated into the PM-1MKII is its user-friendly controls. The speaker includes a built-in volume control on the rear panel, along with a curved, bi-amped amplifier that offers specific tuning for each driver. This, paired with the monitor's high performance-to-price ratio, makes it an accessible choice for both aspiring and seasoned audio professionals.

The build quality of the Fostex PM-1MKII is also commendable, featuring a durable enclosure that helps reduce unwanted vibrations. Its sleek and modern aesthetic makes it an attractive addition to any studio setup. The compact design allows for versatile placement—whether on a desk or mounted on stands—ensuring that users can create an optimal listening environment.
