Removing the Heat-Sink Assembly

WARNING: The heat sink may become hot during normal operation. Allow sufficient time for the heat sink to cool before you touch it.

CAUTION: For maximum cooling of the processor, do not touch the heat transfer areas on the heat sink. The oils in your skin can reduce the heat transfer capability of the thermal grease.

Prerequisites

1Remove the battery.

2Remove the optical drive.

3Remove the base cover.

4Remove the memory module(s).

5Remove the wireless card.

6Remove the hard drive.

7Remove the keyboard.

8Remove the palm rest.

9Remove the system board.

Procedure

NOTE: The appearance of the heat-sink assembly on your system may differ from the image below.

1Turn the system board over and place it on a flat surface.

2Disconnect the fan cable from the system board.

3In sequential order (indicated on the heat-sink), loosen the captive screws that secure the heat-sink assembly to the system board.
