PERSONAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

Wear complete eye and clothing protection when working with lead acid batteries. Always shield eyes during use and wear safety glasses.

Make sure someone is within range of your voice or close enough to come to your aid when you are working near a lead-acid battery.

Have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby in case battery acid contacts skin, clothing, or eyes. If this happens, wash immediately with soap and water. Then get medical attention.

Avoid touching your eyes while work- ing with a battery. Acid particles (cor- rosion) may get into your eyes. If acid enters the eye area, rinse with cold water for at least 10 minutes and get medical help immediately.

Remove all personal metal items from your body such as rings, bracelets, necklaces and watches, while working with a lead-acid battery. A battery can produce a short circuit current high enough to weld a ring (or the like) to metal, causing a severe burn.
