The option can be in the non-nativeor native format. Native format means keyword:option while non-native means keywordoption. Some options can be specified as just option, for example, A4 or duplex.

Methods of Printing

Through rcutil

Run rcutil

Make changes in the settings in the GUI

Save settings (.f533rc will be updated in the user’s home directory).

Exit rcutil

Use lp command to send the job:

olp –d printqueue filename.prn

Through the command line

Pass the options through the lp command:

olp –d printqueue –o keyword1:option –o keyword2:option

filename.prn

keyword:option is any pairing of a feature and one of its corresponding options. Example: Punch:Left or PageSize:A4

NOTE:

The actual output using this method may be affected by any settings saved in the settings file (.f533rc).

Printing from Unix applications

Printing is possible directly from Unix/Linux applications. This section discusses printing from Netscape Navigator and Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Once the printer driver has been installed, print jobs can be sent to the print queue directly from Unix applications, or from command line. If the application being used has a print dialog, specify the lp command in the Print Command field and use the print queue to send the job to.

If the application has the capability to print to file, print the document to file and send the output file through lp command to the print queue.

These are better illustrated in the next sub-sections.
