Installation Notes

ƒThe drive should be mounted carefully on the surface of 0.1mm or less flatness to avoid excessive distortion.

ƒIn order to prevent short-circuit under any circumstances, a space of 0.5mm or more should be kept under the PCB.

ƒSpace should be kept around the drive to avoid any contact with other parts, which may occur due to shock or vibration.

ƒThe temperature of the top cover and the base must always be kept under 60C to maintain the required reliability.

ƒBe sure not to cover the breathing hole to keep the pressure inside the drive at a certain level

ƒDo not apply any force to the top cover, except the screw areas on top cover. Maximum force to the specified area is 2N.

ƒThe drive contains several parts which may be easily damaged by ESD (Electric Static Discharge). Avoid touching the interface connector pins and the surface of PCB. Be sure to use ESD proof wrist strap when handling drive.

ƒThe four mounting screws should be tightened equally with 0.3N-m (3kgf-cm) torque. The depth should be 3.0mm minimum and 3.5mm maximum.

Placing Hard Drive inside your Computer

Determine mounting configuration (the drive can be mounted in either a horizontal or vertical orientation)

Configure drive for system application.

Configure the adapter board for the specific system application (if required).

Install adapter board into an unused PC/AT 16 bit slot (if required).

Install the I/F cable to the system's 44 pin connector port or adapter board. Ensure pin 1 is oriented correctly, (pin 1 on the cable is usually identified by a red or blue strip.)

Set correct drive type in system CMOS

Refer to applicable manuals for software installation instructions.

Important Note: Disconnect power from your computer system before beginning installation.

MK8026GAX specifications

The Toshiba MK8026GAX is a notable hard disk drive (HDD) in Toshiba's extensive lineup, specifically designed for mobile computing and compact devices. Released as part of the company's MK series, this HDD emphasizes a balance between performance, reliability, and energy efficiency, making it a favored choice among laptop manufacturers and consumers seeking enhanced storage solutions.

One of the key features of the MK8026GAX is its storage capacity, offering 80 GB of space. While this may seem modest compared to contemporary standards, it was quite adequate during its release for storing essential applications, documents, and multimedia files. The drive employs a standard 2.5-inch form factor, which is ideal for laptops, portable hard drives, and other space-constrained devices.

In terms of performance, the MK8026GAX operates at a spindle speed of 5400 RPM. This rotational speed provides a good balance between read/write speeds and power consumption. High-speed access time is estimated at around 12 ms, allowing it to compete effectively with other drives of its era. Furthermore, it features a decent data transfer rate, which facilitates quick loading times for applications and files.

The MK8026GAX utilizes Toshiba’s advanced magnetic recording technology, which increases data density and enhances reliability. The drive is designed to withstand the rigors of mobile use, featuring an internal shock sensor to guard against sudden jolts and drops, thereby protecting stored data from loss or corruption.

Energy efficiency is another significant characteristic of the MK8026GAX. It operates with lower power consumption, which is vital for preserving battery life in laptops and portable devices. This efficiency is complemented by its low heat generation, allowing for cooler operation during extensive use.

Notably, the MK8026GAX supports various interface standards, such as SATA, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of systems. The drive's reliability is underscored by Toshiba’s robust manufacturing processes, which contribute to its durability and consistent performance over time.

In summary, the Toshiba MK8026GAX is a versatile HDD that effectively meets the needs of mobile computing. With its reliable performance, decent storage capacity, low power consumption, and enhanced durability, it continues to be a relevant choice for users who require solid performance in compact applications, even as technology progresses.
