uRetain this manual for future reference.
Using your appliance
uAlways check that the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.
uMake sure that the mains socket is earthed. The manu- facturer and dealer cannot accept responsibility for any problems caused by incorrect wiring.
uAlways unplug the appliance before filling the boiler reservoir.
uUse a Residual Current Device (RCD) protected supply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.
uAlways take care when using the appliance.
uDisconnect the appliance from the power supply when not in use, before fitting or removing parts and before clean- ing.
uDo not remove the filler cap while the unit is operating. Switch off and allow the appliance to cool for 2 minutes before removing the cap.
uDo not leave the unit unattended when switched on.
uLiquid or steam must not be directed towards equipment containing electrical components.
uNever submerge the unit in water or other liquids or pour water over the unit.
uOnly use clean tap water.
uNever overfill the water tank past the MAX indicator (maximum 4 litres/7 pints).
uMake sure that the boiler is placed on a safe and flat surface. Do not tip the boiler as there is a risk of water entering the hose.
uNever pull the unit by the hose or electric cable.
uKeep the cable away from heat and sharp edges.
uDo not place the boiler higher than ground level e.g. on a step ladder or table.
uNever block the safety valves on the top of the boiler.
uThe boiler and the steam plate become hot during use. Always hold the steam plate and the boiler by the handles provided.
uNever detach the hose while the unit is switched on. Allow to cool down for 10 minutes.
uDo not allow the hose to become kinked or blocked by de- bris. In the event of a hose blockage remove the plug from the wall socket. If the blockage can not be removed, return the unit to your nearest Black & Decker service centre.
uWhen removing wallpaper from the ceiling, be careful of condensation collecting in the steam plate. Empty the steam plate regularly and never use directly above your head as hot water may drip.
uAfter use, allow the unit to cool down for 10 minutes before emptying and storing. Always store upright in a dry place.
uWhen using a ladder always work at comfortable heights and be careful not to overreach.
uDo not stand on the wallpaper stripper.
uNever replace the boiler filler cap with a non Black & Decker part. If this should be lost, return the unit to your nearest Black & Decker service centre.
uIf you are using an extension lead it must be rated at a minimum of 13 amps and fully unwound. Do not operate with a lead rated at less than 13 amps as this will cause the cable to overheat. The extension lead used must be a ‘3
Safety of others
uThis appliance is not intended for use by persons (includ- ing children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concern- ing use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
Safety devices
uIncorporated in the body of the boiler is a pressure release valve. This will allow steam and some hot water to be emitted should there be excess pressure in the boiler. This could be caused by a blocked hose or overfill condition. In the event of this happening, remove the plug from the wall socket and allow to cool before investigating. Do not, under any circumstances, allow this valve to become blocked.
Note: Under normal use there may be small amounts of steam and water emitted from this valve.
uThe filler cap includes a vacuum release valve which allows air to be taken into the unit if a vacuum is created.
