Functions

Scan

This function scans an original once the scanning area, scanning composition, resolution, and other values have been set.

When setting these values, consideration should be given to the original that is to be scanned and to the output device (display, printer, etc.). For example, it is meaningless to scan an original at high resolution if the resolution of the output device is lower than the scanning resolution, especially because high-resolution scanning uses a great deal of memory and requires more processing time.

Scanning Composition

There are three scanning composition modes: binary scanning, halftone scanning, and multi- value scanning.

Binary scanning

This mode scans the original in black and white. This mode is used to scan originals that consist only of text, line drawings, and other elements that lack intermediate colors.

Halftone scanning

This mode scans the original in pseudo-halftones created by dots. This mode is used to output an original that contains intermediate colors, such as a photo, on an output device that can only express binary per pixel, such as a laser printer.

Gray Scale scanning

This mode scans the original with 16 or 256 gradations. This mode is used to output an original that contains intermediate colors on an output device that can express different gradations for a single pixel, such as a Dye Sublimation printer or a display.
