Technical Considerations

extreme negative underflows yield -0, expressions like 1/x3 produce the correct sign for ° when x is tiny and negative.

Addition and subtraction produce -0 only in these cases: (-0) - (+0) yields -0

(-0) + (-0) yields -0

When rounding downward, with x finite, x-xyields -0

x+(-x) yields -0

The square root of -0 is -0.

The sign of zero is important in complex arithmetic (Kahan 1987).

iMalc will convert any display of -0 or +0 to read 0.
