Muting the sound

Press MUTE to temporarily turn off the sound. While the sound is off, the screen displays the word ÒMUTEÓ in the lower right corner. To restore the sound, press MUTE or VOL x •.

Using the TV’s Features

When you press MUTE, the Closed Caption feature is automatically activated. To deactivate captions and restore normal sound, press MUTE again. This feature works only when the Closed Caption mode is set to OFF. For more information about closed caption settings, see ÒUsing the closed captioned featureÓ on page 27.

Selecting stereo/SAP broadcasts

The multi-channel TV sound (MTS) feature provides high-fidelity stereo sound. MTS also can transmit a second audio program (SAP) containing a second language or other audio information.

Note: The MTS feature is not available in VIDEO mode.

When the TV receives a stereo or SAP broadcast, the word ÒSTEREOÓ or ÒSAPÓ displays on-screen every time you turn the TV on, change the channel, or press RECALL.

To listen to stereo sound:

1.Press MENU.

2.Press x or to highlight the AUDIO menu.

3.Press y or z to highlight MTS.

4.Press x or to highlight STR (stereo).

Note: If the stereo sound is noisy, select MONO to reduce the noise.

Note: In general, if you leave the TV in stereo (STR) mode, the TV will automatically output the type of sound being broadcast (stereo or mono).

To listen to a second audio program (SAP):

1.Press MENU.

2.Press x or to highlight the AUDIO menu.

3.Press y or z to highlight MTS.

4.Press x or to highlight SAP. The TV speakers will output the second audio program (if available), instead of normal audio.
