14-2. Using PING

PING is a very useful utility for checking to see if a camera is responding or checking to see if an IP address is available.

In Windows 98/Me,

PING is located in C: \Windows.

In Windows 2000/XP,

PING is located in C: \Windows\System32.

Windows 98/Me/2000/XP:

1.Click on Start ->Run and type in: command and then press ENTER

2.In the MS- DOS window, type in: ping XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX and then press ENTER

3.(where XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX is your IP address) For example, if your Camera uses the IP address of 123.123.123.1, you would type in: ping 123.123.123.1

If there is a camera, or a PC or other network device online and using this address you will see:

Pinging 123.123.123.1 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 123.123.123.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Reply from 123.123.123.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Reply from 123.123.123.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Ping statistics for 123.123.123.1:

If there is NO response on this address you’ll see

Pinging 123.123.123.1 with 32 bytes of data:

Ping statistics for 123.123.123.1:

Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

This indicates that the address is available for use. However, there could still be a device which is currently offline which is configured to use the address. To be certain, make sure all your network devices are on and connected to your network when checking for address availability.

IP EDIT.EXE is used to scan the Installed i-WATCHERs and set the Camera Name and IP Address.
