DESCRIPTION

The APX480M uses an unregulated MOSFET power supply for superior sound and output wattage. In addition, a toroid-coil is used to transfer power with minimal performance loss due to heat. To avoid unwanted noise, a double-sided conformal printed circuit board with strategically placed components keeps AM RFI subdued.

All of the connections and controls for the APX480M are conveniently located at the ends of the amplifier and labeled appropriately. To ensure the best possible electrical connections, the power, speaker, and RCA inputs are gold-plated. An additional benefit of this amplifier is the ability to create a 2, 3, or 4 channel amplified system with a flip of a switch (see Application section). In the event of component failure or a short circuit, the APX480M incorporates safe guards and an outboard ATC fuse to prevent damage to the amplifier

INPUT CONNECTIONS AND AUDIO CONTROLS

The front panel of the APX480M contains both connections for RCA and speaker level inputs, along with the audio controls as shown below.

APX480M specifications

The Clarion APX480M is a cutting-edge marine amplifier that combines power with durability, making it an excellent choice for boat enthusiasts who want to enhance their audio experience on the water. This amplifier is designed to deliver high-quality sound and can power even the most demanding marine audio systems.

One of the standout features of the APX480M is its impressive power output. With a maximum output of 480 watts, it can drive multiple speakers and subwoofers effectively, providing a rich sound experience. The amplifier operates at a 4-channel configuration, allowing for diverse installation options. It is capable of delivering 60 watts RMS per channel into 4-ohm loads, ensuring that you can achieve loud and clear audio without distortion, even at higher volumes.

The APX480M is built for the tough marine environment. It has been designed and constructed to resist moisture and corrosion. The amplifier features conformal coated circuit boards, which protect the electronics from harsh marine conditions such as saltwater and humidity, contributing to its longevity and reliability. Additionally, the rugged aluminum heatsink provides efficient thermal management, preventing overheating during extended use.

Another notable characteristic of the APX480M is its built-in high-pass and low-pass crossovers. These allow users to fine-tune their audio system, ensuring that each speaker receives the appropriate frequency range. This feature enhances overall sound quality and helps in achieving a balanced audio experience, essential for listening to music while cruising on the water.

The amplifier also incorporates advanced technologies for improved performance. Some of these technologies include a MOSFET power supply, which maximizes efficiency and minimizes signal loss, and a variable bass boost, allowing users to emphasize low frequencies for a more powerful bass response. It also features low-level RCA inputs, making it easier to connect to head units for seamless integration into existing audio systems.

Installation is made simple with the APX480M, thanks to its compact design and user-friendly layout. The amplifier comes with a comprehensive set of mounting options and a straightforward wiring scheme, making it accessible for both novice and experienced installers.

In summary, the Clarion APX480M stands out in the marine audio market with its powerful output, durable construction, and versatile features.
