Time/Segment Time
elapsed time. When a
personal trainer program or a heart rate program is selected, the display will show both the time re- maining in the program and the time remaining in the current segment of the program. The display will alternate between one number and the other every few seconds. The Segment Time indicator will light when the segment time is shown.
Calories/Fat Calories/
Heart Rate display— This display shows the approximate numbers of calories and fat calories
you have burned (see
FAT BURNING on page 25). This display will also show your heart rate when you use the handgrip pulse sensor or the optional chest pulse sensor. Every few seconds, the display will change from one number to the next. The Fat Cals. indicator or the Heart Rate indicator will light when the num- ber of fat calories or your heart rate is shown.

Note: The console can display speed and dis- tance in either miles or kilometers. To find which
unit of measurement is selected, hold down the
Stop button while inserting the key into the con- sole. An E, for English miles, or an M, for metric kilometers, will appear in the display. Press the Speed + button to change the unit of measure- ment. When the desired unit of measurement is selected, remove the key and then reinsert it.
Note: For simplicity, all instructions in this manual refer to miles.
To reset the displays, press the Stop button, re- move the key, and then reinsert the key.
6 Measure your heart rate, if desired.
Note: If you hold the handgrip pulse sensor and wear the optional chest pulse sensor at the same time, the console may not display your heart rate accurately. Before using the handgrip pulse sensor, make sure that your hands are clean.
To measure your
heart rate, stand
on the foot rails and place your hands on the metal contacts on the handrail. Your

Step onto the foot rails, press the Stop button, and adjust the incline of the treadmill to the lowest setting. The incline must be at the lowest set- ting when the treadmill is folded to the storage position or the treadmill will be damaged. Next, remove the key from the console and put it in a se- cure place. Note: If the displays and various in- dicators on the console remain lit after the key is removed, the console is in the “demo” mode. See page 20 and turn off the demo mode.
When you are finished using the treadmill, move the on/off switch near the power cord to the off position and unplug the power cord from the front of the treadmill.
