The real cost

The refrigerated display section of a supermarket or convenience store requires a substantial capital investment. In addition to the initial investment in display equipment, operating expenses such as electricity and maintenance pose a significant hit to the retailer’s balance sheet.

Wasted electricity

A study performed by the United Nations Environment Program suggests that worldwide, refrigeration equipment represents approximately 35–50% of a supermarket’s electric bill*, 25% of which is consumed by display case lighting. Traditionally, the products inside display cases have been lit with fluorescent lamps. Although considered an efficient light source under normal conditions, fluorescent lamps perform poorly in cold temperatures. In fact, these lamps only perform at 20% of their optimal light output. Additionally, most of the energy consumed by this antiquated lighting system is converted to heat within the display case. This heat requires the cooling system to work harder and to consume more energy to maintain the required temperature.

Costly maintenance

The cold and harsh environment of a cooler or freezer also has a negative effect on the lifetime of a fluorescent lamp. Lamps often have to be replaced within months of installation and this frequent re-lamping, as well as unplanned spot replacement, results in substantial maintenance costs.

A better way of lighting

Now, thanks to Philips, you can take advantage of the most advanced LEDs available in the market. Our Affinium LED modules drastically lower the energy consumption required to achieve your desired lighting levels. In fact, a 25W Affinium LED module can replace a less efficient 78W fluorescent solution and still provide a higher quality of light.

T10VHO, T12HO specifications

Philips T12HO and T10VHO are a line of high-output fluorescent lamps designed to deliver exceptional performance in various commercial and industrial lighting applications. These lamps are known for their energy efficiency, durability, and versatility, making them an ideal choice for facilities that require bright and reliable illumination.

The T12HO (High Output) and T10VHO (Very High Output) lamps are primarily characterized by their larger diameters, with T12 measuring 1.5 inches and T10 measuring 1.25 inches. These dimensions allow for increased lumen output, making these lamps suitable for environments where high-intensity lighting is essential, such as warehouses, gymnasiums, and manufacturing facilities.

One of the standout features of these lamps is their advanced phosphor coating, which enhances light quality and color rendering. This coating ensures that the emitted light is bright and evenly distributed, providing improved visibility and reducing the chances of fatigue among workers. With high Color Rendering Index (CRI) values, these lamps can illuminate colors more accurately, which is particularly important for tasks requiring color distinction.

Philips has integrated energy-efficient technologies into the design of the T12HO and T10VHO lamps. They are designed to operate at higher wattages but yield significant savings in energy costs compared to traditional lighting solutions. This not only helps reduce operational expenses for businesses but also contributes to lower carbon footprints.

Another critical characteristic of these lamps is their long life span. With a rated life of up to 20,000 hours, Philips T12HO and T10VHO lamps minimize frequent replacements, further enhancing their cost-effectiveness. Their robust construction also allows them to withstand more challenging environments, making them less prone to breakage.

In terms of compatibility, these lamps can be paired with various fixtures and ballasts, providing flexibility during installation and ensuring they can be integrated into existing lighting systems.

In summary, Philips T12HO and T10VHO fluorescent lamps exemplify high-performance lighting solutions characterized by high output, energy efficiency, long life, and superior light quality. They are well-suited for a variety of commercial and industrial applications, making them a reliable choice for enhancing workplace illumination.
