READ BEFORE LIGHTING

WARNING: If you do not follow these instructions exactly, a fire or explosion may result causing prop- erty damage, personal injury or loss of life.

A.

This a ppliance is equipped with an ignition de vice w hic h

 

automatically lights the pilot. Do not try to light the pilot

 

by hand.

B.

BEFORE LIGHTING smell all ar ound the a ppliance ar ea

 

for gas. Be sur e to smell ne xt to the f loor because some g as

 

is hea vier than air and will settle on the f loor.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU SMELL GAS

Do not try to light any appliance.

Do not touch any electric switch.

Do not use an y phone in y our b uilding .

Immedia tely call y our g as supplier fr om a neighbor’ s phone . Follow the g as supplier’ s instr uctions.

If you cannot r eac h your g as supplier , call the f ire department.

C. Do not use this a ppliance if an y par t has been under w ater. Immedia tely call a qualif ied ser vice tec hnician to inspect the appliance and to r eplace an y par t of the contr ol system and an y gas contr ol whic h has been under w ater.

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTICE: During initial operation of new heater, burn- ing logs will give off a paper-burning smell. Orange flame will also be present. Open damper or window to vent smell. This will only last a few hours.

1.STOP! Read the saf ety information, above.

2.Turn off all electr ic po wer to the a ppliance .

3.Turn wall switch to the OFF position.

4.Open lo wer louv er panel.

5. Turn equipment shutof f valve c lockwise Clockwise to the OFF position (see F igure 47). Do not f orce .

6.Wait five (5) min utes to c lear out an y gas. Then smell f or gas, inc luding near the f loor. If you smell g as, STOP! Fol- low “B” in the saf ety information above. If you don’ t smell gas, go to the next step.

7.Turn equipment shutof f valve counter clockwise C-clockwiseto the ON position. Do not f orce .

8.Close lo wer louv er panel.

9.Turn on all electr ic po wer to the a ppliance .

10.Turn the w all switch to the ON position.

11. Visuallylocatethepilot. Theignitorshouldbe gintospar kand

the main b urner should ignite once f

lame a ppear s at pilot.

If lighting the a ppliance f or the f irst time eac h season, it

 

may take se veral attempts bef ore the suppl y gas can r each

 

the pilot and main b urner s.

 

If the a ppliance will not sta y lit after se ver al attempts,

 

follow the instr uctions To Turn Off Gas To Appliance,

 

below, and call y our ser vice tec hnician or g as supplier .

1.Turn off the w all switch.

2.Turn off all electr ic po wer to the a ppliance if ser vice is to be perf ormed .

3.Open lo wer louv er panel.

4.Remove front hear th br ick and contr ol access panel.

5. Turn equipment shutof f valve c lockwise Clockwise to OFF.

Do not force .

6.Close lo wer louv er panel.
