When you first connect power, the PLAY/ SKIP indicator flashes rapidly (until you record the outgoing message), the AN- SWER indicator flashes (until you install

abackup battery), and the TAD-1027 au- tomatically runs a self-test. You cannot operate the TAD during this test. When the test is complete, the TAD-1027 beeps once and announces, “Answer off.”

When the battery is weak or not installed, the ANSWER indicator flashes and pauses, flashes and pauses, until you in- stall a fresh battery. Be sure the AC adapter’s cord is plugged in so you do not lose the TAD-1027’s stored informa- tion, then replace the battery.

Caution: Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly.
