Blade Guides

Blade Tension

The upper blade guides shown in Figure 29 sup- port the blade from moving side-to-side while cut- ting. These should be adjusted to approximately

.004" (about the thickness of a dollar) away from the blade and should be behind the gullet of the blade teeth.

The lower blade guides shown in Figure 30 are underneath the table. These can be adjusted with a screwdriver and should be set in the same man- ner as the upper blade guides.

The bandsaw blade must be adequately ten- sioned so that it will cut straight and not come off the wheel during operation. To tension the band- saw blade:

1.Remove the thumbscrew that secures the upper cover, then pull the upper cover off the bandsaw unit to expose the upper wheel.

2.Turn the tension bolt (shown in Figure 31) counterclockwise to decrease the tension and clockwise to increase the tension.

3.Tension the blade so that it deflects approx- imately 14" with moderate pressure from your finger.

Disconnect power to the machine when perform- ing any adjustments or maintenance. Failure to do this may result in seri- ous personal injury.
