Pointing Device Techniques

To use the Pointing Device, you need to know how to move the cursor and how to click and select an item.

Description

Cursor

The cursor identifies the position of your pointer on the

 

screen. The cursor appears in one of three different

 

forms depending on its position on the screen.

 

1.

Pointer - The cursor most often appears as an arrow

 

 

to identify its location on the screen.

 

2.

Hand - The cursor changes from an arrow to a hand

 

 

shape when it rests on a link to another Web page.

 

3.

Text Cursor - The cursor changes to a vertical line to

 

 

identify its position as you create text.

 

 

Click

Press and release the left button once to select or to

 

highlight.

 

 

Select

In menus: Point to a menu item and click.

 

In most text boxes (for example, when you are

 

composing e-mail or Instant Messages): Point to the

 

beginning of your selection; hold down the left button

 

and move the cursor to the end of your selection. The

 

selected text is highlighted. Release the button. Within a

 

text box, selected text can be:

Cut - Press Ctrl + X

 

2.

Pasted - Press Ctrl + V

 

3.

Copied - Press Ctrl + C
