Studiophile BX8a

Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Studiophile Series BX8a bi-amplified studio near-field monitor speakers. M- Audio is well known for digital audio interface technology, digital converters, audio preamps and mixers. Now, after extensive research and development, M-Audio is proud to present the Studiophile BX8a.

The BX8a was designed and tested by veteran audio engineers to meet your needs in a studio monitoring environment. It is focused on the functional goal of delivering pure, original sound without any additional coloration. The BX8a monitor is self-powered, directly accepting a line-level signal from a variety of sources.

The Studiophile BX8a is designed to overcome all the limitations of conventional studio reference monitors within the digital audio environment. This system delivers a wide-range frequency response by employing two extraordinary drivers and unique crossover technology licensed by M-Audio. It boasts a stable and balanced low-mid frequency response along with a defined mid and high-frequency response as well. Both drivers are magnetically shielded for desktop music production.

For pro engineers at commercial studios to home studio owners, the Studiophile BX8a sets a new affordable standard in studio monitoring.

Studiophile BX8a Features

1. Woofer

The woofer unit is 8 inches in diameter with a magnetically shielded Kevlar cone, high-temperature voice coil and damped rubber surround. It is designed to deliver balanced mid and low-frequency response. M-Audio’s new BX8a employs Kevlar for low-frequency driver construction. The same material used in bullet-proof vests, Kevlar’s high resilience makes it ideal for use in speaker cones—although it is typically reserved for monitors with higher price tags than the BX8a. Needless to say, Kevlar represents a significant improvement over the polypropylene and paper used in most monitors at this price.

2. Tweeter

By employing a specially developed 1-inch silk dome with magnetic shielding, the tweeter can deliver distortion-free original sound and offer an extremely natural response. Its design minimizes reaction time by using a specially shaped silk dome for excellent delivery, and also minimizes resonance by adapting a unique internal damping technology.

3. Sub-Frequency Port

The air vent hole in the rear panel is called a Sub-Frequency Vent Port and is designed to allow the discharge of extremely low frequencies occurring below 30Hz.

BX8a specifications

The M-Audio BX8a is a popular studio monitor designed for musicians, producers, and audio engineers who seek accuracy and clarity in their sound reproduction. This speaker is part of the BX series, known for providing incredible performance at a relatively affordable price point. With a sleek design and impressive features, the BX8a has become a staple in many home and professional studios.

One of the standout characteristics of the M-Audio BX8a is its impressive 8-inch bi-amped woofer that delivers deep and rich low frequencies. This driver is designed to handle a wide range of audio signals while maintaining clarity, ensuring that bass-heavy genres are accurately represented. Complementing the woofer is a 1-inch silk dome tweeter that extends the high-frequency response, providing a smooth and detailed sound up to 22 kHz. The combination of these drivers allows for a balanced audio experience across all frequency ranges.

The BX8a also features a bi-amplified design, which means that it utilizes separate amplifiers for the woofer and tweeter. This bi-amping technology minimizes distortion and enhances overall sound quality, allowing users to hear their mixes with greater precision. The total power output of 130 watts ensures that the monitors can fill a room without sacrificing audio fidelity.

Another significant feature of the BX8a is its rear-firing bass reflex port. This design element allows for improved low-frequency extension and reproduction without compromising clarity. The port design minimizes turbulence, providing a cleaner bass response, which is crucial for accurate mixing and mastering.

M-Audio has incorporated various acoustic tuning controls on the rear of the BX8a, allowing users to tailor the speakers to their specific environment. With adjustable high and low-frequency filters, users can adapt the monitor's characteristics to compensate for room acoustics, ensuring that mixes translate well across different playback systems.

The M-Audio BX8a also exhibits a robust build quality, designed to withstand the demands of daily studio use. Its modern aesthetic and compact design allow it to fit comfortably in various studio setups, while its rugged enclosure helps reduce unwanted resonance.

In conclusion, the M-Audio BX8a is an excellent choice for anyone looking to enhance their audio production experience. With its powerful drivers, bi-amped technology, and customizable acoustic controls, it delivers a balanced and precise sound that can help creators achieve professional results in their music and audio projects.
