10.1Limitations of Smoke Alarms

Smoke Alarms have significantly helped to reduce the number of fire fatalities in countries where they are widely installed. However independent authorities have stated that they may be ineffective in some circumstances. There are a number of reasons for this:

Smoke Alarms will not work if the batteries are depleted or if they are not connected. Test regularly and replace the entire unit when it fails to operate.

Smoke Alarms will not detect fire if sufficient smoke does not reach the alarm. Smoke may be prevented from reach- ing the Alarm if the fire is too far away, for example, if the fire is on another floor, behind a closed door, in a chimney, in a wall cavity, or if the prevailing air draughts carry the smoke away. Installing smoke alarms on both sides of closed doors and installing more than one smoke alarm as recommended in this leaflet very significantly improve the probability of early detection.

The Smoke Alarm may not be heard.

Radio link may not work due to interference or the signal being blocked by furniture, renovations etc.

A smoke alarm may not wake a person who has taken drugs or alcohol.

Smoke Alarms may not detect every type of fire to give suf- ficient early warning. They are particularly ineffective with: fires caused by smoking in bed, escaping gas, violent explosions. poor storage of flammable rags and/or liquids, (for example petrol, paint, spirits etc), overloaded electrical circuits, arson, children playing with matches.

Smoke Alarms don’t last indefinitely. The manufacturer rec- ommends replacement after 10 years as a precaution

Use the Smoke Alarm Test Button to familiarise your family with the Alarm sound and to practice fire drills regularly with all family members. Draw up a floor plan that will show each member at least 2 escape routes from each room in the house. Children tend to hide when they don’t know what to do. Teach children how to escape, open windows, and use

Ei 3100RF specifications

The Ei Electronics Ei 3100RF is an advanced smoke alarm designed to enhance safety and peace of mind in residential settings. This model stands out due to its integration of cutting-edge technologies and user-friendly features that cater to modern needs.

One of the key features of the Ei 3100RF is its unique radio frequency (RF) interlinking capability. This allows multiple alarms to communicate with each other wirelessly, ensuring that if one alarm detects smoke, all interconnected alarms will sound an alert. This interlinking technology is invaluable in larger homes where the sound from a single alarm may not reach all areas effectively, thereby enhancing overall safety.

The Ei 3100RF utilizes an advanced optical smoke sensing technology. This means it can detect smoldering fires that may not immediately produce flames but can generate significant amounts of smoke. This capability is particularly crucial in residential environments, where early detection can save lives and property. The alarm boasts a high-performance sensing chamber that minimizes false alarms, a common concern with traditional smoke detectors.

Another notable characteristic of the Ei 3100RF is its built-in 10-year lithium battery. This eliminates the hassle of changing batteries regularly and ensures that the unit remains operational for an extended period. The battery's longevity is a significant advantage, as it provides uninterrupted monitoring and alarm functionality over the years.

Ease of installation is yet another feature of the Ei 3100RF. The unit includes a simple mounting process that can be completed in a matter of minutes, making it accessible even for individuals without extensive DIY experience.

Furthermore, the Ei 3100RF incorporates a test button, allowing users to easily verify that the alarm is functioning correctly. Regular testing is essential for maintaining safety standards, and this feature encourages proactive behavior among homeowners.

In addition to its practical features, the Ei 3100RF is designed with a sleek, modern aesthetic, making it suitable for a variety of interior styles without being an eyesore. Safety doesn't have to compromise design, and this product exemplifies that philosophy.

In conclusion, the Ei Electronics Ei 3100RF is an excellent choice for those seeking a reliable, advanced smoke alarm. With its RF interlinking technology, optical detection capabilities, long-life battery, easy installation, and user-friendly features, the Ei 3100RF addresses both functional and aesthetic needs in smoke detection.
