Using Your Cooktop

To obtain the best cooking results possible, you must operate your cooktop properly. This section gives you important information for efficient and safe use of your cooktop.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Hazard

Do not operate with a yellow flame.

Doing so can result in death, heart attack, or convulsions.

Fire Hazard

Do not let the burner flame extend beyond the edge of the pan.

Turn off all controls when not cooking.

Failure to follow these instructions can result in death or fire.

NOTE: Do not leave empty cookware, or cookware which has boiled dry, on a hot surface burner. The cookware could over- heat, causing damage to the cookware or cooking product.

Using the surface burners

Your cooktop is equipped with electric

 

ignitors. Electric ignitors automatically light

 

the burners each time the control knob is

 

turned to LITE.

 

Push in control knob and turn to the

Push in and turn

LITE position. The clicking sound is the

 

ignitor sparking. Visually check that burner

 

has lit.

 

After the burner lights, turn the control

 

knob to the desired cook setting. You can

 

set the control knob anywhere between the

 

high and low settings.

 

NOTE: Your cooktop is factory-set for use with Natural Gas. Do not use L.P./Propane Gas. If you wish to convert your cooktop to use L.P./Propane Gas, order Kit No. 4173631 from your local retailer or an authorized Whirlpool service company.

Conversion kit is not approved for use in Canada.

Surface burner markers

The solid dot in the surface burner marker

 

shows which surface burner is turned on by

 

that knob.
