KEYPAD FEATURES

DISPLAY

The 5839 is a wireless keypad that allows you to perform the same functions as you can from a wired keypad, as well as to display the status of your security system. The 5839 should be used as an auxiliary keypad in addition to one or more wired keypads. It should not be used as the only or primary keypad.

KEYPAD KEYS

To access the keypad keys, simply open the swing-down door by applying outward pressure on the door release slot on the right side. See Figure 1. The 12 keypad keys are located behind the protective door and are continuously backlit for ease of use. See Figure 2. (Check the User’s Guide that accompanies the control panel for detailed instructions on the use of these keys.)

The function keys include keys for panic alarm activation. The panic alarms are activated by pressing key pairs

[1]& [], [3] & [#], or [] & [#], or a Special Function Key (see below). Whether these panic keys are functional and the type of panic alarms they produce, is determined by the control panel’s capability and programming. (Check with your installer for the availability and assignment of these panic keys.)

SOUNDER

The keypad’s built-in sounder pulses for fire alarms and sounds continuously for burglary and audible panic alarms.

SPECIAL FUNCTION KEYS

These are four larger keys located to the left of the numeric keys (see Figure 2). The keys may be programmed by your installer for panic alarms or other special functions such as single-button arming.

Special Function keys must be held down for at least 2 seconds to activate an alarm. (Check with your

installer for the programmed function of these keys.)

5839 specifications

The Honeywell 5839 is a highly regarded motion sensor designed for use in security systems, specifically tailored to enhance the protection of residential and commercial properties. This advanced device incorporates a variety of features and technologies that ensure reliable performance while minimizing false alarms.

One of the key features of the Honeywell 5839 is its dual technology—passive infrared (PIR) and microwave detection. The combination of these two technologies allows the sensor to effectively differentiate between human motion and other non-threatening movements, such as those caused by pets or environmental factors. This dual detection capability significantly reduces the likelihood of false alarms, ensuring that users can trust the system’s accuracy.

The PIR sensor operates by detecting changes in infrared energy within its field of view. As warm-bodied individuals move through the sensor's detection zone, the device registers the changes and triggers an alert. The microwave technology complements this by emitting microwave pulses and analyzing the reflections. If a person enters the detection area, the reflected waves will alter, which also sets off the alarm. This means that the Honeywell 5839 is particularly effective in various conditions, including low light or complete darkness.

Another notable characteristic of the Honeywell 5839 is its impressive detection range. The device is engineered to monitor a wide area, typically covering up to 35 feet in front of it. Furthermore, it features a customizable coverage pattern, allowing users to adjust the detection zone according to specific requirements. This flexibility makes the sensor suitable for numerous applications, from protecting large warehouses to securing small offices.

Installation of the Honeywell 5839 is user-friendly, as it often comes as a wireless device, thereby eliminating the need for extensive wiring. This feature not only simplifies the installation process but also enhances the overall aesthetic of the property by minimizing visible gadgets and wires.

In terms of robustness, the Honeywell 5839 is designed to withstand diverse environmental conditions, which ensures consistent performance in varying climates. Its durable design enables it to endure both indoor and outdoor settings, making it a versatile choice for different security needs.

In summary, the Honeywell 5839 is an advanced motion sensor that marries dual detection technologies, a wide coverage range, and a user-friendly installation process. Its ability to minimize false alarms while delivering reliable security solutions makes it a preferred choice for safeguarding properties.
