· Keep children and bysta nders away while operating a powe r tool. Distractions can cause you
to lose control, so visitors should remain at a safe distance fro m the work area.
· Be aware of all power lin es, electrical circuits, water pipes and other mechanical hazards in
your work area, particular ly those hazards below the work su rface hidden from the operator’s
view that may be uninten tionally contacted and may cause pe rsonal harm or property damage.
· Be alert of your surroun dings. Using power tools in confine d work areas may put you
dangerously close to cutt ing tools and rotating parts.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
· WARNING: Always check to ensure the powe r supply corresponds to the voltage on
the rating plate.
· Do not abuse the cord. N ever carry a portable tool by its pow er cord, or yank tool or extension
cords from the receptacle . Keep power and extension cords a way from heat, oil, sharp edges or
moving parts. Replace da maged cords immediately. Damaged cords m ay cause a fire and
increase the risk of electr ic shock.
· Do not expose power too ls to rain or wet conditions. Water enterin g a power tool will increase
the risk of electric shock.
· The sharpener-motor can be used continuously for 20 minutes; the n, it needs to be turn off to cool
down to avoid possible dam age from over- heating
· If sharpening chain on an ele ctrical saw, always disconnect the electrical s aw power cable.
PERSONAL SAFETY
· Stay alert, watch what yo u are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do
not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A
moment of inattention wh ile operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
· Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing, dangling objects, or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing
and gloves away from mo ving parts. Loose clothes, jewelry o r long hair can be caught in moving
parts. Air vents often cover movi ng parts and should be avoided.
· Use safety apparel and equipment. Use safety goggles or s afety glasses with side shields
which comply with curren t national standards, or when neede d, a face shield. Use as dust mask
in dusty work conditions. Th is applies to all persons in the work area. Also use non-skid safety
shoes, hardhat, gloves, d ust collection systems, and hearing protection when appropriate.
· Avoid accidental starting. Do not carry the power tool with your f inger on the switch. Ensure
the switch is in the off positi on before plugging tool into power o utlet. In the event of a power
failure, while a tool is bein g used, turn the switch off to prevent s urprise starting when power is
restored.
· Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all tim es.
· Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before connecting to the power supply or turning on the
tool. A wrench or key that is left attached to a rotating part of the tool may result in personal injury.
· Never wear rings, bracelets and/or loose clothing that could come i nto contact with the grinding
wheel.
· Always wear gloves and app roved protective eyewear while opera ting or maintaining the sharpener.
· Before starting up the sharpe ner, check that the working area is free of tool s or other objects.
· Keep all other people or by-s tandards away from work area during its operation.
· Always work in a stable and safe position.
