Notes on Spare Drives using the Easy RAID Setting (EZ)

When EZ function is ENABLED, the auto-rebuilding to spare drive is automatic. The degraded RAID group will start rebuilding automatically by using the existing spare drive.

*Spare drive can be either plugged before RAID building or a new drive can be plug as the spare drive when RAID rebuild is required.

A.Which port acts as a spare drive?

The last drive will automatically become the spare drive. For a 3-drive RAID5 with spare:

Drives connected to SATA ports 1~3 belong to the active RAID5 array and drive connected to port 4 is the spare.

For a 4-drive RAID10 with spare:

Drives connected to SATA ports 1~4 belong to the active RAID10 array and drive connected to port 5 is the spare.

For a 2-drive RAID1 with spare:

Drives connected to SATA ports 1& 4 belong to the active RAID1 array and drive connected to port 5 is the spare.

B.When will rebuild action start?

When the raid fails and EZ is enabled, the HPM-XA will automatically rebuild the RAID group using the spare.

When the raid fails and EZ is disabled, the HPM-XA will NOT rebuild the raid group unless you install a good drive to replace the failed drive.

Addonics Technologies AE6CFHI, AE6CAHI manual Which port acts as a spare drive?, When will rebuild action start?

AE6CAHI, AE6CFHI specifications

Addonics Technologies has consistently pushed the boundaries of data storage and connectivity solutions, and their AE6CFHI and AE6CAHI product lines illustrate this commitment. These advanced storage systems are designed to enhance the way users interact with data, catering to both personal and professional needs.

The AE6CFHI, also known as the Addonics 6-Bay FireWire/USB Storage Enclosure, offers remarkable flexibility when it comes to managing storage media. It supports up to six SATA drives, providing a total capacity that can reach several terabytes, depending on the chosen drives. This modular design allows users to customize their storage configuration based on specific requirements.

One of the standout features of the AE6CFHI is its dual interface capability, supporting both FireWire 800 and USB 3.0. This ensures compatibility with a wide range of devices and operating systems, making it a versatile solution for various setups. Its Plug-and-Play functionality means that users can seamlessly connect and start using the system without the need for extensive software installation.

On the other side, the AE6CAHI showcases a slightly different focus with its design, aimed more at high-capacity storage solutions. Like its counterpart, the AE6CAHI can also accommodate six SATA drives, enabling significant data storage and backup options. However, it boasts a unique feature set tailored for network-attached storage (NAS) configurations. This allows multiple users to access the data simultaneously over a network, making it an ideal choice for small businesses or collaborative environments.

The technology behind both models emphasizes reliability and performance. Built with robust components, they feature cooling fans to prevent overheating during prolonged use. This durability is additional insurance for the investment in storage solutions, as it ensures data integrity and longevity.

Further, both units support RAID configurations, including RAID 0, 1, and 5, providing users with options for data redundancy and performance enhancement. This flexibility is crucial for users who prioritize data security while still requiring fast access to their digital assets.

In conclusion, Addonics Technologies AE6CFHI and AE6CAHI models demonstrate a perfect blend of flexibility, performance, and reliability. With their sleek designs, impressive storage capabilities, and versatile connectivity options, these products are designed to meet the evolving needs of today's digital landscape. Whether for personal use or business applications, these enclosures represent a significant step forward in storage technology.
