The modestly sized unit transmits voice and data over a single SONET line, which avoids costs associated with more complex network schemes. It offers a graceful evolution from Fiber Reach multiplexers, and is compatible with other SONET compliant equip- ment for interoperability with an ex- isting network. Its design also includes a data service slot that supports four 10/100 Mbps Fast Ethernet private lines.
Though compact, it offers the same level of protection as many larger next- generation network elements, and is environmentally hardened for Outside Plant (OSP) applications. This com- bination is well-suited to a variety of deployment options — whether it’s to support the customer at the network edge, or to deliver or utilize high-quality,cutting edge, next-generation services in areas with low end-user density.
