These connectors are set to Standard IDE mode by default. In Standard IDE mode, you can connect Serial ATA boot/data hard disk drives to these connectors. If you intend to create a Serial ATA RAID set using these connectors, set the Configure SATA as item in the BIOS to [RAID]. See section 4.3.6 SATA Configuration for details.

Before creating a RAID set, refer to 5.4.3 Intel RAID Configuration or the manual bundled in the motherboard support DVD.

You must install the Windows® XP Service Pack 1 before using Serial ATA hard disk drives. The Serial ATA RAID feature (RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10) is available only if you are using Windows® XP or later version.

When using the connectors in Standard IDE mode, connect the primary (boot) hard disk drive to the SATA1/2/5 connector.

right angle side

Connect the right-angle side of SATA signal cable to SATA device. Or you may connect the right-angle side of SATA cable to the onboard SATA port to avoid mechanical conflict with huge graphics cards.

When using hot-plug and NCQ, set the Configure SATA as in the BIOS to [AHCI]. See section 4.3.6 SATA Configuration for details.
