7.5.2 Aspect ratio
Aspect ratios
Thestandard aspect ratio used in broadcast television is the 4:3 ratio. However, most of the DVD sources use nowadays the wide
screen 16:9 or even the CinemascopeTM 2.35:1 aspect ratio.
Some DVD sources may even use the anamorphic 16:9 or anamorphic 2.35:1 to take advantage of the higher vertical resolution
offeredby the 4:3 ratio. The“anamorphic” term means that the original wide screen image is squeezed in order to fit the 4:3 aspect
ratio.
