Chapter 2: Overview

2. Overview

2.1 Introduction

The Extended Range DVI-D Extender extends your PC DVI transmission distance up to 330 ft. (100 m) at up to 1920 x 1200 or 1080p resolution. With the extender, users can transmit high quality digital video from PC applications over one inexpensive CAT5e/6/7 LAN cable to a remote monitor or projector, instead of using short and expensive DVI cables. You can disconnect the monitor, place it in a remote location, and reconnect it without rebooting the operating sys- tem. The XR DVI Extender also supports serial port RS-232 (TXD and RXD) control.

The extender includes two compact units: a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter unit connects to your PC DVI output and serial port, such as COM1, and the receiver unit connects to a monitor with serial control (such as touch panels). While successfully connected, the two LED lights on the RJ-45 connec- tor will blink.
