Product Summary

The DM14 is one of a series of new loudspeakers which together form the B&W DM range for the eighties. The design brief for the entire range was to benefit from the most sophisticated high technology tools.

The DM14 follows the frequency linearity, freedom from all forms of distortion and colouration must be to monitor standard, and that the model should be fitted with audio powered overload protection.

Technical highlights

The driver configuration chosen consists of two 150mm bass/midrange drivers operating in a totally sealed enclosure, designed so as to ensure a low Q, well damped third order high pass characteristic.

The HF section utilises the TW26 high frequency transducer. All the DM 14 drivers are over engineered so work totally within their limits of power output, frequency response and dispersion.

The DM14 employs acoustic suspension rear loading for the bass/midrange drivers. The sealed enclosure is constructed of 12mm high-density particle board, laminated with 6mm bituminous pads, and a 19mm meditle front baffle assembly.

Bowers & Wilkins DM14 specifications Technical highlights

DM14 specifications

The Bowers & Wilkins DM14 is a renowned compact bookshelf speaker known for its impressive sound quality and stylish design. First launched in the early 1990s, it quickly became a beloved choice among audiophiles and casual listeners alike. The DM14 is celebrated for its exceptional performance across various genres of music, making it a versatile option for any audio setup.

One of the primary features of the DM14 is its dynamic drivers, which are designed to deliver a rich and immersive sound experience. The speaker comes equipped with a 6.5-inch woven Kevlar cone bass driver that provides deep and controlled bass response. This technology helps eliminate distortion while maintaining clarity, allowing the listener to enjoy powerful low frequencies without compromising mid and high ranges.

In addition to its robust bass driver, the DM14 features a 1-inch aluminum dome tweeter. This tweeter is engineered to reproduce high frequencies with precision and smoothness. The result is a well-balanced sound profile that covers a broad frequency range, ensuring that vocals and instruments are reproduced with stunning clarity and detail.

The cabinet design of the DM14 is another noteworthy characteristic. Constructed with high-quality materials, the enclosure minimizes unwanted vibrations and resonance, which can adversely affect sound quality. The speakers are finished in an attractive wood veneer, providing an elegant touch that can complement any décor, making them not only functional but aesthetically pleasing as well.

Bowers & Wilkins has incorporated several proprietary technologies into the DM14 to enhance performance further. The Flowport technology, for instance, is designed to optimize airflow around the bass port, reducing turbulence and improving bass response. This innovation allows the speaker to produce deeper bass without sacrificing accuracy, creating an overall richer audio experience.

With a sensitivity rating of 90dB, the DM14 is also efficient, allowing it to produce high sound levels even with low-powered amplifiers. This feature makes it an ideal choice for those who may be using smaller audio systems or entry-level electronics.

Overall, the Bowers & Wilkins DM14 is a perfect blend of sophistication and performance. Its combination of advanced driver technology, smart design, and a beautiful finish makes it a standout choice for anyone seeking quality sound in a compact package. Whether for music listening or home theater use, the DM14 continues to impress, maintaining its reputation as a classic in the world of audiophile speakers.
