This section describes the available varieties and characteristics of various types of film. This information is useful when choosing film format and development options.

Film Varieties

The most common format is 35 mm film (135 film). Recently, a new format has been launched. IX240 film complying to Advanced Photo System standards is compact, simple to handle and equipped with a range of new features.

The CanoScan FS2720U accepts both types of film for scanning. Please select the film that matches your camera.

Films in the 4x5, 120 or 220 roll film or similar formats cannot be scanned in the CanoScan FS2720U. The scanner accepts 35 mm films in sleeves or slide mounts and IX240 film in cartridges or slide mounts. Please read the section entitled Final Film Format (p. 25) for information regarding film mounts and sleeves.

Color/Monochrome Film

Films are available in color or monochrome formats. The CanoScan FS2720U accepts both and can even reproduce color films in the monochrome format.
