Operation
Speaker/Microphone/ChargeJack
YourmicroTALKradiocan befittedwith anexternalSpeaker/Microphone,
freeingyourhands for othertasks. This samejack also servesas the
connectingpointfor the wallcharger/adapter.
Toattach a speaker/microphone:
1.Open the speaker/microphone/charge
tabon top of your microTALK radio.
2.Insert the plug into the speaker/
microphone/chargejack.
Toconnect a wall charger/adapter:
1.Open the speaker/microphone/charge
tabon top of your microTALK radio.
2.Insert the wall charger/adapter plug
intothe speaker/microphone/charge jack.
SignalStrength Meter
YourmicroTALK radio has a Signal Strength
Meterthat shows the strength of your incoming
andoutgoing transmissions. The ascending bars
nextto the signal strength indicate the strength
ofthe signal. The greater the number of bars
visible,the stronger the signal. The fewer
numberof bars visible, the weaker the signal.
microTALKRange
Yourrange will vary depending on terrain and conditions.
Inflat, open country your radio will
operateat maximum range.
Buildingsand foliage in the path of the
signalcan reduce the range of the radio.
Densefoliage and hilly terrain will
furtherreduce the range of the radio.
OnFRS channels 8 through 14, your radio
automaticallyswitches to low power, which
willlimit the range the radio can communicate.
Remember,you can achieve maximum
rangeby using maximum range
extender.See page 6 for details.

UsingYour Radio
AutoSquelch/MaximumRange
YourmicroTALK radio is equipped with Auto Squelch, which
automaticallyshuts off weak transmissions and unwanted noise
dueto terrain and conditions. This slightly reduces the Maximum
Rangeat which signals can be heard.
Youcan turn off auto squelch to allow all signals to be
receivedand extend the maximum range of your radio.
Tobriefly turn off auto squelch:
Pressthe Light/Max Range button
forless than five seconds.
Ifyou hear two beeps, you have turned
themaximum range extender on (see below).
Toturn maximum range extender on:
Pressand hold the Light/Max Range button
forat least five seconds until you hear
twobeeps which indicates the maximum range
extenderis on.
Toturn maximum range extender off:
Pressand release the Light/Max Range
buttonor change channels.
LockFeature
TheLock feature locks the Channel,Mode,Hi•Lo and Power
buttonsto prevent accidental operation.
Toturn the lock feature on or off:
Pressand hold the Lock/Enter button for
twoseconds.
Adouble beep sound is used to confirm your
lockon or off request. When in Lock mode,
theLock icon will be displayed.
