California and United States Emission Control Defects Warranty Statement
CARB, U.S. EPA and B&S are pleased to exp_ain the Emission
Control System Warranty on your 1996 and later utilityor lawn and
garden equipment (ULGE) engine. InCalifornia, newULGE engines
produced on or after August 1, 1995 must be designed, built and
equipped to meet the State's stringent anti-smog standards.*Eiseo
where in the United States, new non=road, spark-ignition engines
certified for model year 1997 and later, must meet similar standards
set forth bythe U.S. EPA. B&S must warrant the emission control
system on your enginefor theperiods oftime listed below,provided
there has been noabuse, neglect or improper maintenance of your
Youremission controlsystem incmudesparts such as the caCnuretor,
air cleaner, ignition system, muffJer and catalytic converter. Also
includedmaybe connectors andother emissionrelated assemblies.
Where a warrantable condition exists, B&S wiIQrepair your ULGE
engine at nocost to you including diagnosis, parts and labor=

ULGE engines are warranted relative to emission control parts below,ff any covered parton your engine is defective, the partwil_be
defects for a period of two years, subject to provisions set forth repaired or replaced by B&S.
Owner's Wsrrsnty Responsibilities
Asthe ULGE engine owner, you areresponsible for the performance
ofthe required maintenance listedin your Operator/Owner Manual
B&S recommends that you retain all your receipts covering mainte-
nanceon your ULGE engine, butB&S cannot deny warranty solely
forthe lack of receipts o rfor your failu re to ensure the performance of
all scheduled maintenance.
As the ULGE engine owner, you should however be aware that B&S
maydeny youwarranty coverage ifyour ULGE engine or a part has
failed due toabuse, neglect, improper maintenance or unapproved
modifications.
Youare responsible for presenting your ULGE engine to anAutho=
rized B&S Service DeaBerassoon asa probmemexists. The undis-
putedwarranty repairs shouBdbecompleted ina reasonabb amount
oftime, not to exceed 30 days=

Theemission warranty is a defects warranty. Defects are judged on
normal engine performance=The warranty is not rotated to an in=use
emission test,

The following are specific provisions relative to your Emission Control Defects Warranty Coverage=It is in addition to the B&Sengine warranty
for non-regulated engines found in the Operator/Owner Manual
1. Warranted Parts
Coverage under this warranty extends only to the parts listed
below (the emission control systems parts} to the extent these
parts were present on the engine purchased.

2. Length of Coverage
B&Swarrants to the initial owner and each subsequent purchaser
that the Warranted Parts shallbe free from defects in materials
and workmanship which caused the failure of the Warranted
Partsfor a period oftwo years from thedate the engine isdeliv-
ered to a retail purchaser.
3. No Charge
Repair or replacement ofany Warranted Part will be performed
atno charge to the owner, including diagnostic _aborwhich leads
to the determination that a Warranted Part is defective, if the
diagnostic work is performed at an Authorized B&S Service
Dealer. For emissions warranty service contact your nearest
Authorized B&S Service Dealer as listed inthe "Yellow Pages"
under "Engines, GasoBinei' "Gasoline Engines," "Lawn
Mowers," or similar category.
4. Claims and Coverage Exclusions
Warranty c_aimsshall be filed in accordance with the provisions
ofthe B&SEngine Warranty Policy. Warranty coverage shall be
excluded for failures of Warranted Parts which are not originat
B&S parts or because of abuse, neglect or improper msinte=
hence as set forth in the S&S Engine Warranty Policy.B&S is not
liableto cover failures of Warranted Partscaused bythe useof
add-on, non=original, or modified parts.
5, Maintenance
Any Warranted Partwhich is not scheduJed for replacement as
required maintenance or which is scheduled onJy for regugar
inspection to the effect of "repair or replace as necessary* shall
be warranted as to defects for the warranty period. Any
Warranted Part which isscheduled forreplacement as required
maintenance shall be warranted asto defects only for the period
oftime upto thefirst scheduled replacement for that part. Any
replacement part that isequivalent in performance and durability
may be used in the performance of any maintenance or repairs.
The owner is responsible forthe performance of aiBrequired
maintenance, as defined in the B&S Operator!Owner Manual.
6. Consequential Coverage
Coverage hereunder shah extend to the failure of any engine
components caused by the failure of any Warranted Part still
under warranty:
