223s/223xs Crossover

Stereo 2-Way/Mono 3-Way Crossover

More sound to your amps and speakers

The secret to making speakers sound great lies with the crossover you use. With the dbx® 223s and 223xs Crossovers you’ll get great performance, ultra low-noise, rugged reliability and four decades of dbx knowledge and expertise in building the world’s finest processors. The 223 uses precision filters to separate the audio signal and direct the correct frequencies to your loudspeaker drivers. By directing only the specific frequency bands to each speaker driver the 223 leaves your amplifiers free to use their full power on the usable signal eliminating distortion and giving your PA system a cleaner and better sound.

The dbx 223 is a dual channel crossover with all the features you would expect from a professional product. They feature Linkwitz-Riley 24dB per octave filters, independent output gain controls for level matching, output phase inversion, 40 Hz low cut filter, and optional mono summing of the low frequency (subwoofer) output. Everything in the design exudes great precision from the solid “click” controls to the high quality ¼” TRS (223s) and XLR (223xs) inputs and outputs.

223xs, 223s specifications

The dbx Pro 223s and 223xs are highly regarded stereo graphic equalizers that have become staples in both live sound and studio environments. These units are designed to provide users with powerful tools for shaping sound and achieving a polished audio output.

One of the main features of the dbx Pro 223s and 223xs is the 2-channel, 23-band graphic equalization. Each channel is equipped with 23 frequency bands that span from 31.25 Hz to 16 kHz, allowing for precise control over the frequency spectrum. This extensive range enables users to tailor their sound accurately, whether they are dealing with vocals, instruments, or full mixes. The sliders are easy to use, providing visual feedback that helps in making quick adjustments during live performances or recording sessions.

The dbx Pro 223xs includes an innovative program-dependent circuitry, which automatically adjusts the overall response of the equalizer based on the input signal level. This dynamic functionality enhances the sonic performance, ensuring that the EQ remains transparent and effective across a range of input levels. The 223s model, while lacking this specific technology, still offers exceptional audio quality and stability that professionals have come to trust.

Another significant characteristic of both models is the dedicated low-cut filter. This high-pass filter is adjustable and helps eliminate unwanted low-frequency rumble or noise, which can muddy the overall sound. It is particularly useful in live settings where environmental noise can impact the clarity of the performance.

The dbx Pro 223xs also features balanced XLR and TRS inputs and outputs, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of audio equipment. This ensures a secure connection that reduces the risk of interference and maintains high-quality signal integrity.

Both models are designed with durability in mind. The sturdy chassis is built to withstand the rigors of constant use, making them ideal for both studio and on-stage applications.

In conclusion, the dbx Pro 223s and 223xs stand out for their robust capabilities in graphic equalization. With features such as extensive band control, innovative filtering technology, and rugged design, these EQs continue to be preferred choices for audio professionals seeking to enhance their sound quality.
