What is MPEG 4?

MPEG 4 is an ISO/IEC standard developed by the MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group), a committee that has also developed other standards that have won the Emmy Award as MPEG 1 and MPEG 2 (DVD uses this standard for video applications).

MPEG 4 is a very efficient, digital video compressing standard that reduces the size of MPEG 2 videos up to one eighth of its original size. Most of the video streaming media are based on this technology, such as DivX, WMV, etc. MPEG 4 is therefore the most popular technology used for

transmitting and distributing videos.
