635A/B, 635A specifications

The Electro-Voice 635A and 635B are iconic dynamic microphones renowned for their robust construction and high-performance sound capture. These microphones have been a staple in various applications, including broadcasting, recording, and live sound. Their design philosophy emphasizes durability and versatility, making them suitable for both professional and amateur use.

One of the standout features of the 635A/B is its cardioid pickup pattern, which effectively isolates the main sound source while minimizing background noise. This characteristic is particularly beneficial in live environments where unwanted ambient sounds can compromise audio quality. The inherent feedback rejection of the cardioid pattern further enhances the microphone's usability on stage, allowing performers to move freely without the risk of unwanted feedback.

The frequency response of the 635A/B is tailored to deliver a balanced and natural sound across a wide range of vocals and instruments. Generally, the microphones perform well within the frequency range of 50 Hz to 16 kHz, capturing the nuances of voices and instruments with clarity. This makes them adaptable to a variety of audio sources, whether it be a singer’s voice or a brass instrument, highlighting their versatility.

Equipped with a low impedance design, the 635A/B can effectively minimize interference and noise, ensuring clean signal transmission over long cable runs. This feature is particularly advantageous in professional settings where longer distances between the sound source and mixing console can lead to deterioration in audio quality.

The build quality of the Electro-Voice 635 series is another significant aspect that sets it apart from many other microphones. Designed to withstand the rigors of professional use, the metal body is resilient against wear and tear, making it an ideal choice for both touring musicians and permanent installations. The internal shock mount system further protects the microphone capsule from handling noise, ensuring consistent performance.

In addition to its standard features, the 635B variant includes a built-in windscreen, which aids in reducing plosive sounds and wind noise, making it even more effective for outdoor use or in less-than-ideal acoustic environments.

Overall, the Electro-Voice 635A and 635B microphones have solidified their reputation through years of reliable performance and adaptability. Their combination of dynamic range, durability, and effective sound isolation has made them a popular choice for audio professionals across various fields, ensuring they remain relevant in an ever-evolving audio landscape. Whether used in a studio, on stage, or for broadcasting, the 635A/B microphones continue to deliver exceptional audio quality and reliability.
