3. VerifythatalinkexistsbycheckingthattheportRX(Receive)LEDisON(flashing
amber,blinkinggreen,orsolidgreen).IftheRXLEDisOFFandtheTX(Transm it)
LEDisnotblinkingamber,performthefollowingstepsuntilitison:
a. Toviewthereceiveandtransmitactivityonagroupofsegments,pressthe
GROUPSELECTbutton(seeFigure34)tosteptothegroupofinterest(Groups1
through4).EachtimetheGROUPSELECTbuttonispressed,theGROUPLED
lightsupinsequence,indicatingwhichGroupisselected.Thereceiveand
transmitactivityforthatgroupofsegmentsisthenindicatedbytheRXandTX
LEDsforeachsegment.
b. VerifythatthecablingbeingusedisCategory5UTPwithanimpedancebetween
85and111ohms.Iftheportistooperateat100 Mbps,category 5cablingmustbe
used.
c. Verifythatthedeviceattheotherendofthetwistedpairsegmentisonand
properlyconnectedtothesegment.
d. VerifythattheRJ45connectorsonthetwistedpairsegmenthavetheproper
pinoutsandcheckthecableforcontinuity.Typicall y,acrossovercableisused
betweenhubdevices.Astraightthroughcableisusedtoconnectbetween
switchesorhubdevicesandanenduser(computer).RefertoFigure35and
Figure 36forfourwireRJ45connections.RefertoFigure37andFigure 38for
eightwireRJ45connections.
