Installing the PVT Twisted Pair Transmitters

The PVT CV is a 1/8 rack shelf mountable transmitter, and the PVT RGB, PVT RGB CV, and PVT SW RGB are 1/4 rack shelf mountable transmitters. Each of the four models can be mounted under a desk or shelf, or on to certain projector mounts, and are also suitable for tabletop use.

Tabletop use

The PVT comes with self-adhesive rubber feet attached to the four corners of the bottom. Set the PVT on a horizontal surface.

UL requirements for rack mounted devices

The following Underwriters Laboratories (UL) requirements pertain to the safe installation of the PVT transmitter in a rack.

1. Elevated operating ambient temperature — If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the operating ambient temperature of the rack environment may be greater than room ambient temperature. Therefore, install the device in an environment compatible with the maximum ambient temperature (Tma = +122 °F, +50 °C) specified by Extron.

2. Reduced air flow — Install the equipment in a rack so that the amount of air flow required for safe operation of the equipment is not compromised.

3. Mechanical loading — Mount the equipment in the rack so that a hazardous condition is not achieved due to uneven mechanical loading.

4. Circuit overloading — Connect the equipment to the supply circuit and consider the effect that circuit overloading might have on overcurrent protection and supply wiring. Appropriate consideration of equipment nameplate ratings should be used when addressing this concern.

5. Reliable earthing (grounding) — Maintain reliable grounding of rack-mounted equipment. Pay particular attention to supply connections other than direct connections to the branch circuit (e.g., use of power strips).

Rack mounting

For rack mounting, mount the PVT on a VersaTools® 19" 1U rack shelf (RSF 123, part #60-190-20or RSB 123, #60-604-20) (figure 2-1) or on a standard 1U rack shelf (RSU 129, part #60- 190-01or RSB 129, #60-604-01) (figure 2-2). On standard rack shelves, the PVT CV can be mounted in one of eight locations to the rear or the front of the rack, and the PVT RGB and RGB CV in one of four locations to the rear or front of the rack.
