
9.1.3 Serial Operation
Once the cable has been attached and the interfaceset up properly the control-
ler will immediately begin transmitting temperature readings at the pro-
grammed rate. The serialcommunications uses 8 data bits, one stop bit, and no
parity.The set-point and other commands may be sent via the serial interface to
set thetemperature set-point and view or program the various parameters. The
interfacecommands are discussed in section . All commands are ASCII charac-
ter strings terminated with a carriage-return character (CR, ASCII 13).
9.2 IEEE-488 Communication
The IEEE-488 interface is availableas an option. Instruments supplied with this
option may beconnected to a GPIB type communication bus which allows
manyin struments to be connected and controlled simultaneously.To eliminate
noise, theGPIB cable should be shielded
9.2.1 Setup
Touse the IEEE-488 interface first connect an IEEE-488 standard cable to the
back of the calibrator.Next set the device address. This parameter is pro-
grammed within the IEEE-488 interface menu. The IEEE-488 interface param-
eters menu is outlined in Figure 6.
Toenter the IEEE-488 parameter programming menu first press “EXIT” while
pressing “SET” and release to enter the secondary menu. Press “SET” repeat-
edly until the display reaches “PrObE”. This is the menu selection. Press “UP”
repeatedly until theI EEE-488 interfacemenu is indicated with “IEEE”. Press
“SET” to enter the IEEE-488 parameter menu. The IEEE-488 menu contains
the IEEE-488 address parameter.
9.2.1.1 IEEE-488 Interface Address
The IEEE-488 address isprompted w ith “AddrESS”.Press “SET” to program
the address. The defaultaddress is 22. Change the device address of the calibra-
tor if necessary tomatch the address used by the communication equipment by
pressing “UP” or“DOWN” and then “SET”.
9.2.2 IEEE-488 Operation
Commands may nowbe sent via the IEEE-488 interface to read or set the tem-
perature or access other controller functions. All commands areA SCII charac-
ter strings and are terminated with a carriage-return (CR, ASCII 13). Interface
