Focus/Exposure Lock
To compose photographs with off-center subjects:
1 Focus: Position the subject in the focus frame and press the shutter button halfway to lock focus and exposure. Focus and exposure will remain locked while the shutter button is pressed halfway (AF/AE lock).
RDepending on the option selected for vAE/AF-LOCK BUTTON in the shooting menu (P73), focus and/ or exposure can also be locked by pressing the AE-L/AF-Lbutton; focus and/or exposure will remain locked even when the shutter button is pressed halfway. Choose AE LOCK ONLY to lock exposure but not focus, AF LOCK ONLY to lock focus but not exposure, or AE/AF LOCK to lock both focus and exposure. Regard- less of the option selected, the AE-L/AF-Lbutton can not be used to lock exposure in manual focus mode (P42).
2Recompose: Keep the shutter button pressed halfway or keep the AE-L/AF-Lbutton pressed.
R If AE&AF ON/OFF SWITCH is selected for kAE/AF-LOCK MODE (P73), focus and/or exposure lock when the AE-L/AF-L button is pressed and remain locked until the button is pressed again.
3Shoot: Press the button all the way down.
