Grounding | Check Motor Rotation |
In the event of an electrical short, grounding reduces the risk of electric shock by providing a path of least resistance to disperse electric cur- rent. This tool is equipped with a power cord hav- ing an
This equipment must be grounded. Please ensure that this machine is continuously grounded from the motor to the machine frame and then to a known ground. Verify that any existing electrical outlet and circuit you intend to plug into is actually grounded. If it is not, it will be necessary to run a separate 12 A.W.G. copper grounding wire from the outlet to a known ground. Under no circumstances should the grounding pin from any
Extension Cords
We do not recommend the use of extension cords on 220V equipment. It is much better to arrange the placement of your equipment and the installed wiring to eliminate the need for exten- sion cords. Should it be necessary to use an extension when operating at 110V, make sure the cord is rated Hard Service (grade S) or better. Refer to the chart in Section 1: Safety Instructions to determine the minimum gauge for the exten- sion cord. The extension cord must also contain a ground wire and plug pin. Always repair or replace extension cords when they become worn or damaged.
After the machine is assembled and properly connected to electrical power, test the motor rota- tion. Cycle the machine on and observe the rota- tion of the grinding wheel. Make sure it rotates in the direction indicated by the arrow on the wheel guard. If it does not, the wiring may not be prop- erly connected at the motor. Disconnect from the power source, and check that the motor wiring agrees with the wiring diagram provided in this manual. Make necessary adjustments, close the motor cover, reconnect to power, and test again.
We have covered some basic electrical requirements for the safe operation of your Surface Grinder. These requirements are not necessarily comprehensive. You must be sure that your particular electrical configuration complies with local and state codes. Ensure compliance by checking with your local munic- ipality or a licensed electrician.
