E. Locating your Fireplace & Chimney

Location of the fireplace and chimney will affect perfor- mance.

Install within the warm air space enclosed by the building envelope. This helps to produce more draft, especially during lighting and die-down of the fire.

Penetrate the highest part of the roof. This minimizes the effects of wind loading.

Locate termination cap away from trees, adjacent structures, uneven roof lines and other obstructions.

Minimize the use of chimney offsets.

Consider the fireplace location relative to floor and ceiling and attic joists.

Take into consideration the termination requirements in

Section 8 and Section 9.

NOTICE: Locating the fireplace in an area of considerable air movement can cause intermittent smoke spillage from fireplace. Do not locate fireplace near
