ENGINE PROBLEMS

Engine Will Not

Start Possible Cause

1. Check control positions. Fuel valve OFF.
2. Check fuel. I Out of fuel.
Bad fuel; mower stored
without treating or
draining gasoline, or
refueled with bad gasoline.
Spark plug faulty,
fouled, or improperly
aaooed.
Spark plug wet with
fuel (flooded engine).
3. Remove and inspect
spark plug.
4. Take mower to Honda
servicing dealer, or
refer to shop manual.
Fuel filter clogged,
carburetor malfunction,
ignition malfunction,
valves stuck. etc.
3. Check under mower
deck.

6. Take mower to Honda
servicing dealer, or
refer to shop manual.

Possible Cause

Throttle not set to FAST.
Grass too tall to cut.
Mower deck clogged.
Air filter clogged.
Bad fuel; mower stored
without treating or
draining gasoline, or
refueled with bad
gasoline.
Fuel filter clogged,
carburetor malfunction,
ignition malfunction,
valves stuck. etc.

Correction

Turn fuel valve ON (p.‘l2).
-
Move throttle lever to
CHOKE position, unless
the engine is warm (p. 25).
Refuel (p. 19).
- Drain fuel tank and
carburetor (p. 63).
Refuel with fresh
gasoline (p. 19).
Clean, gap, or replace -
spark plug (p. 47).
Dry and reinstall spark
plug. Start engine with
throttle lever in FAST
position.
Replace or repair faulty
components as necessary

Correction

Move throttle to FAST -
(P. 27).
Raise cutting height
(p. 13), cut narrower
swath (p. 31) or cut more
frequently.
Clean out mower deck -
(P. 32). -
Clean or replace air
filter (p. 45). -
Drain fuel tank and
carburetor (p. 63).
Refuel with fresh
gasoline (p. 19).
Replace or repair faulty-
components as necessary
