Using battery power
The Slate runs on battery power whenever it is not plugged into external power. Slate battery life varies, depending on power management settings, running programs, display brightness, external devices connected to the Slate, and other factors.
If the battery is charged and the Slate is running on external AC power supplied through the AC adapter, the Slate switches to battery power if the AC adapter is disconnected from the Slate.
CAUTION: If the option Initiate orderly shutdown when AC is removed is enabled in Setup Utility, data loss could occur when AC power is disconnected from the Slate.
NOTE: When you disconnect AC power, the display brightness is automatically decreased to save battery life. For information on increasing or decreasing display brightness, refer to Adjusting the screen brightness on page 6.

Maximizing battery discharge time
Battery discharge time varies depending on the features you use while on battery power. Maximum discharge time gradually shortens, as the battery storage capacity naturally degrades.
Tips for maximizing battery discharge time:
●Decrease the brightness on the display.
●Store the Slate in a cool, dry location.
●Tap the Power saver setting in Power Options.

The Slate takes the following actions for a critical battery level:
●If Hibernation is enabled and the Slate is on or in Sleep, the Slate initiates Hibernation.
●If Hibernation is disabled and the Slate is on or in Sleep, the Slate remains briefly in Sleep, and then shuts down and loses any unsaved information.
