This configuration avoids the need for an optical bypass switch (page 1-

19)because the FDDI concentrator provides the isolation of the router from the dual ring (to prevent ring wrap) if the router’s FDDI circuit be- comes non-operational.

1.Attach the concentrator to the FDDI ring.

2.Attach either port ‘‘A’’ or port ‘‘B’’ to any ‘‘M’’ port on the FDDI concentrator.
