1 Overview

Insight managed system setup wizard configures systems to enable them to be managed by Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM) and its plug-in applications.

The managed system setup wizard eases configuration of systems for many Insight Management products and features. It is especially useful for configuration of the HP Matrix Operating Environment, but can also be used to configure Insight Management and HP SIM features as well.

After you successfully complete the managed system setup wizard, the selected systems are configured with the management features you specify.

The managed systems:

Are set up with any agents necessary to enable the management features

Have software licenses applied as needed

Have completed any additional configuration steps

You can run this wizard at any time to change the configuration or management features of your systems. You should run the wizard to configure a managed system each time its operating system is installed, updated, or changed.

You also can use this wizard to diagnose configuration issues with your systems.

Before running the managed system setup wizard

You must have properly discovered all systems in HP SIM and have licenses available for all management features. These steps are necessary before running the managed system setup wizard to configure and manage the systems.

The target systems of this wizard must be fully discovered and should have valid credentials stored within HP SIM. If credentials are not stored in HP SIM you can enter credentials for the system during the Set Credentials step of the wizard.

NOTE: While most systems must be successfully discovered in HP SIM before being selected as targets for the managed system setup wizard, Citrix Xen hosts and virtual machines may have minor HP SIM discovery errors (“Completed with minor errors”) before being configured by the managed system setup wizard. These errors indicate that a “discovered VM guest is not associated with the VM host”.

When you run the managed system setup wizard with Citrix Xen hosts and virtual machines as targets, and select a management feature that requires VMM, the managed system setup wizard will configure VMM properly including registering the VM host with VMM. This configuration by the wizard resolves the “not associated with the VM host” HP SIM discovery error.

You must provide software licenses for any products that require them.

Licenses may be needed in the form of either “5x5 keys” or Software Distributor (SD) license bundles (for HP-UX).

For 5x5 keys, the managed system setup wizard presents a dialog for entering license keys

to be consumed. You also can add 5x5 keys using the License Manager (select the Deploy

→License Manager menu and click the Add Licenses button).

NOTE: Any SD license bundles must be installed on managed nodes. Insight managed system setup wizard scans for SD licenses that have been installed on the selected target systems.

Some products also provide trial licenses that enable using the product for a short period.

Matrix Operating Environment Software specifications

HP Matrix Operating Environment (MOE) is an innovative software platform designed to deliver efficient management and orchestration of IT resources across physical, virtual, and cloud infrastructures. It provides a comprehensive solution for organizations that require a robust and flexible environment to manage their IT operations seamlessly.

One of the main features of HP MOE is its ability to optimize resource utilization by automating the provisioning and management of infrastructure components. This includes the ability to rapidly deploy servers, storage, and networking resources in a manner that meets the dynamic needs of modern businesses. This automation significantly reduces the time and effort required for manual configurations, enabling IT teams to focus on strategic initiatives rather than routine tasks.

The software offers a unified management interface that provides visibility into the entire IT environment. Users can monitor performance metrics, track resource allocation, and manage workflows through a single dashboard. This centralized control not only simplifies operations but also enhances decision-making capabilities by providing real-time insights into system health and performance.

Another critical characteristic of HP MOE is its support for both physical and virtual resources. The platform is designed to seamlessly integrate with existing infrastructure, making it easier for organizations to adopt virtualization and hybrid cloud strategies. Its compatibility with industry-standard hypervisors allows businesses to leverage their current investments while taking advantage of the benefits of virtualization.

HP MOE incorporates advanced technologies such as automation scripts, APIs, and tools for workload balancing. This technological backbone enables organizations to implement elasticity in their environments, allowing them to scale resources up or down based on demand. The software also supports a service-oriented architecture, facilitating integration with other enterprise applications and systems.

Security is a top priority in the design of HP MOE. The software provides robust security features that ensure data integrity and protect against unauthorized access. This includes role-based access controls, encryption, and compliance reporting, all of which contribute to a secure operating environment.

In summary, HP Matrix Operating Environment Software is a powerful solution that addresses the complexities of managing modern IT resources. Its key features include automation, unified management, support for physical and virtual environments, and strong security measures. With its ability to enhance efficiency and streamline operations, HP MOE is an essential tool for organizations looking to stay competitive in an increasingly digital landscape.
