MAINTENANCE

Replacing the Air Filter

If the engine seems weak or runs unevenly, the air filter may be clogged. If run with a dirty air filter, the spark plug can become fouled. For this reason, it is important to replace the air filter regularly (see the heading Maintenance Schedule for the proper service interval).

Check the air cleaner daily or before starting the engine. Check for build-up of dirt and debris around the air cleaner system.Keep this area clean. Also check for loose or damaged components. Replace all bent damaged air cleaner components.

Cleaning/replacing the air filter is carried out as follows:

Kohler engine

The standard engine is not equipped with a pre-filter. As an option a pre-filter can be installed on the inside of the air filter cover.

1.Loose the two retaining knobs and remove the cover. If the engine has a pre-filter, it is mounted on the inside of the cover. Replace the foam filter or clean it with soap-water and squeeze it dry before assembly.

2.Clean the area around the filter element to prevent debris from getting in the engine when the element is removed.

3.Remove the filter element. Replace a dirty, bent or damaged element with a new one. Handle new element carefully; do not use if the sealing surfaces are bent or damaged.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Do not use compressed air to clean the filter element. Do not wash the filter element. Do not oil the filter element.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Operating the engine with loose damaged air cleaner components could allow unfiltered air into the engine, causing premature wear and failure.
