Fire Safety

Escape Plan

Prepare and practice a home escape plan twice a year, including drills at night. Know two ways out of every room (door & window) and identify a meeting place outside the home where everyone will gather once they have exited the residence. When two people have reached the meeting place, one should leave to call 911 while the second person stays to account for additional family members. Establish a rule that once you’re out, you never re-enter under any circumstance!

Smoke Alarm Procedure

Smoke alarms are designed to minimize false alarms. Cigarette smoke will not normally set off the alarm, unless it’s blown directly into the alarm. Combustion particles from spills or broiling may set off the alarm if located too close to the cooking area. If the alarm sounds, check for fires first. If a fire is discovered follow these steps. Become thoroughly familiar with these steps, and review them with all your family members.

Leave immediately using one of your planned escape routes (see above).

Before opening inside doors look for smoke seeping

t h rough the edges. Feel with the back of your hand

- if the door is hot use your second exit. If you feel it’s safe, open the door very slowly and be pre p a re d to close it immediately if smoke and heat rush in.

If the escape route requires going through smoke, crawl low under the smoke where the air is cleare r.

Go to your predetermined meeting place. When two people have arrived one should leave to call 911 from a neighbour’s home, and the other should stay to perf o rma head count.

Do not reenter under any circumstance until f i re officials give the go ahead.

Fire Safety

Fire Prevention

Never smoke in bed, or leave cooking food unattended. Teach children never to play with matches or lighters! Train everyone in the home to recognize the alarm pattern, voice message warnings and to leave the home using an escape plan when it’s heard. Know how to do Stop, Drop and Roll if clothes catch on fire, and how to crawl low under smoke. Install and maintain fire extinguishers on every level of the home and in the kitchen, basement and garage. Know how to use a fire extinguisher prior to an emergency. Second level and higher occupied rooms with windows, should have an escape ladder.

KN-COSM-BCA specifications

The Kidde KN-COSM-BCA is a highly rated combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarm designed to enhance home safety. This device integrates advanced technologies that provide comprehensive protection against two of the most critical household threats: fire and toxic gas exposure.

One of the standout features of the KN-COSM-BCA is its dual-sensor technology, which combines both photoelectric and ionization sensors. The photoelectric sensor is especially effective at detecting smoldering fires, which often produce a large amount of smoke without an open flame. On the other hand, the ionization sensor is more responsive to fast-burning fires, ensuring that users are alerted promptly in the event of any fire emergency. This combination ensures a higher level of accuracy in distinguishing between potential threats, thus reducing the chances of nuisance alarms.

Carbon monoxide detection is another critical component of the Kidde KN-COSM-BCA. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can be lethal even in small amounts. The alarm features a powerful CO sensor designed to detect dangerous levels of carbon monoxide quickly and accurately. The device's LED display shows real-time CO levels, allowing users to be informed about their indoor air quality at a glance.

Another key characteristic of the Kidde KN-COSM-BCA is its voice alarm feature. Instead of just a series of beeps, the alarm announces the type of hazard detected, either “Fire” or “Warning: Carbon Monoxide.” This clear communication helps users quickly understand the nature of the threat, facilitating timely responses and safety measures.

The device is equipped with a hush feature to temporarily silence unwanted alarms, making it convenient during cooking or other activities that may trigger false alarms. Additionally, its battery-operated system, backed by a reliable lithium battery, ensures that the alarm remains functional even during power outages, enhancing household safety at all times.

Furthermore, the Kidde KN-COSM-BCA comes with a test/reset button, allowing users to regularly check the functionality of the unit, ensuring peace of mind. Its sleek design enables easy installation in various locations throughout the home, from hallways to bedrooms.

In summary, the Kidde KN-COSM-BCA stands out due to its dual-sensor technology, advanced carbon monoxide detection, clear vocal alerts, and user-friendly features, making it an essential addition to any safety-conscious household.
