Introduction

This product complies with European CE requirements.

Thank you for your purchase of the M-Audio AudioBuddy™, mic preamp and direct box. M-Audio has designed and manufactured several different audio mixers including MiniMixer, MicroMixer 18, MultiMixer 6, MultiMixer 10 and miXim 10. All of these mixers have two things in common: 1.) they are exceedingly quiet -- quieter than 99% of all mixers on the market and 2.) they are uniquely configured to meet the specific needs of the MIDI and multimedia musician.

The Audio Buddy, once again, fits these two criteria. First, it is a very quiet mic preamp. This is because the unit’s simple and efficient design and ultra compact layout eliminates much of the noise. The unit also has a higher than usual voltage “rail” across its internal op- amps. This means that you get more “punch” and much more dynamic audio output.

Secondly, the Audio Buddy (when coupled with its ultra quiet performance) is the perfect audio “gateway” for recording the two most significant, non-line level instruments in the studio: microphones and electric guitars.

The Audio Buddy has two completely independent preamplifier sections. Each of these sections has: 1.) a balanced XLR input on the back of the unit, 2.) a high impedance 1/4” unbalanced input (TS) on the front of the unit, 3.) signal (present) and clipping LEDs, 4.) a gain control and 5.) a 1/4” dual purpose output on the back of the unit that provides either an unbalanced out (when a mono plug is used) or a balanced out (when a stereo plug is used).

Dual Mic Preamp specifications

The M-Audio Dual Mic Preamp is designed for both amateur and professional audio engineers seeking a high-quality solution for enhancing their recording setup. Offering versatility and superior audio performance, this dual-channel preamp is ideal for a variety of applications, from studio recordings to live sound situations.

One of the standout features of the M-Audio Dual Mic Preamp is its dual-channel design. It allows users to connect two microphones simultaneously, making it perfect for recording duets or capturing instruments with multiple mics. Each channel is equipped with its own gain control, enabling precise adjustments to achieve the desired levels without introducing noise or distortion.

Another key characteristic is the inclusion of high-quality, low-noise preamp circuitry. This technology is essential for preserving the integrity of the audio signal, ensuring that recordings maintain clarity and detail. The advanced circuitry also provides a wide gain range, accommodating various microphone types, including dynamic and condenser mics, which adds to the unit’s versatility.

The M-Audio Dual Mic Preamp features phantom power capability, providing the necessary voltage to operate condenser microphones. This feature is crucial for recording vocals or instruments that require external power, making the device suitable for a range of recording scenarios.

In addition to its impressive technical specs, the preamp boasts user-friendly interface elements. LED indicators for signal presence and clipping help users monitor performance in real-time, ensuring signals remain within optimal levels. This attention to usability makes the device accessible for beginners while still providing the necessary tools for seasoned professionals.

The build quality of the M-Audio Dual Mic Preamp is also noteworthy. Constructed with durable materials, it's designed to withstand the rigors of both studio and mobile recording environments. The compact form factor allows for easy integration into audio setups, whether on a desktop or within a larger rack system.

Overall, the M-Audio Dual Mic Preamp is a reliable and effective solution for anyone looking to elevate their audio recordings. With its dual-channel functionality, high-quality preamp circuitry, phantom power capability, and user-friendly design, it serves as an essential tool for achieving professional-grade sound in any recording situation.
