1.Boot the system into Windows.

2.Follow the SATA card/motherboard/system manufacturer's instructions for installing the SATA driver.

3.Shut down your system, connect the hard drive, and boot into Windows to format the drive.

4.From the Windows desktop, select: Start / Settings / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Computer Management / Disk Management.

5.Initialize the drive as a basic disk. When finished initializing, format the drive using the NTFS file format.

C. Existing Windows 2000 or XP System – New drive as “boot drive”

The driver for the SATA interface must be installed prior to connecting the hard drive. If you are using a SATA card, you should physically install it at this time, but do not connect the drive.
