Using the Flash

The flash has a range of 0.4–3 m (1 ft. 4 in.–9 ft. 10 in.) when the camera is zoomed all the way out. The range at maximum zoom is 0.4–1.7 m (1 ft.

4 in.–5 ft. 7 in.). The following flash modes are available:

Playback and Photography Basic

Auto

Flash fires automatically when lighting is poor.

 

Auto with red-

Reduces “red eye” in portraits ( 19).

Flash will not fire even when lighting is poor.

 

Fill flash

Flash fires whenever picture is taken. Use to “fill-in”

 

 

(illuminate) shadows and back-lit subjects.

 

Slow sync

Flash illuminates main subject; slow shutter speeds are

 

 

used to capture background at night or under dim light.

Press the flash mode button.

Highlight the desired mode and press the center of the multi selector.

The selected flash mode icon appears at the top of the monitor. If AUTO is selected, the icon extinguishes automatically after five sec- onds. The selection made in (auto) mode is stored in memory even after the camera has been turned off.

The setting will be canceled if five sec- onds pass without pressing the center of the multi selector.
